Dimensions for Artificial Seagrass

Observation of the environmental conditions on Work Package 3 provides a starting point towards the development of the Artificial Seagrass. Existing seagrass meadows in the area of interest are important sources of information regarding the environmental conditions needed for the seagrasses to grow and survive.

ASG Performance

In the first year, hydrodynamic as well as morphodynamic measurements will be conducted using a commercially available artificial seagrass which will be installed in the Large Wave Flume. At the end of the project phase all data from the project partners will be compiled to produce an artificial seagrass prototype.

Our field season has started!

While spring just set in, we couldn’t wait to explore the suitability of yet another exciting field site. The Bay of Lübeck was our destination in the first half of March in order to identify feasible patchy eelgrass meadows with high exposure to waves. Testing various measuring instruments and sampling methods, we deployed a quadcopter of the Ludwig-Franzius-Institut operated by Raúl Villanueva (see picture). During the summer months we are going to conduct a mapping campaign with an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) in order to record the eelgrass cover and its structure under water through parts of the bay.
